R+HEATSHIELD – Woven polyethylene film sandwiched between two layers of metalized film.

Available in solid or perforated rolls. Use the perforated version when placing directly on top of mass insulation in attic spaces or as a building wrap; use the solid version in all applications where an air or moisture barrier is needed.

R+HEATSHIELD White – White woven polyethylene film on one side, metalized aluminum film on other side. The white side provides a clean, bright finish. This product qualifies as an air barrier.

R+HEATSHIELD SCIF BARRIER – A solid material, reflective on both sides, it increases sound attenuation for SCIF applications.

What’s The Difference?

There are a couple differences between a radiant heat barrier and a reflective insulation product.

One difference involves the materials’ ability to be used as a moisture barrier. Our reflective insulation products can be installed to serve as a moisture barrier. In certain applications, it would be beneficial to create a more breathable space, which is why we offer the R+HEATSHIELD in a perforated option.

A second difference relates to the R value of the products. In some applications you might be looking for an added R value that a reflective insulation can provide. The radiant barrier, R+HEATSHIELD is a more affordable product used to block radiant heat in applications where an additional R value is not needed.

A third difference relates to the way in which it is installed. Reflective insulations are typically installed within cavities that incorporate air spaces between the insulation and the cavity materials, as in a wall. Radiant barrier insulation is typically installed with one reflective surface facing a large open air space, which makes it ideal for insulating an attic.

Our SCIF Barrier is a solid material with reflective foil on both sides. It meets the requirements for Sensitive Compartmented Facilities (SCIF) applications, proving an effective attenuation barrier against a wide range of RF frequencies.

What Is Radiant Barrier?
A radiant barrier is a reflective material that is used to effectively block the transfer of radiant heat. Radiant barriers typically come in sheets with a highly reflective surface on one or both sides, depending upon the application. A good radiant barrier blocks 95 percent of radiant heat transfer, making it highly effective at controlling the transfer of heat from one space to another. For example, installed properly in an attic, a radiant barrier will make the attic cooler in the summer, leading to lower cooling costs and more comfortable home.
What Types Of Applications Are Appropriate?
There are many applications for the building industry (e.g., residential, industrial, commercial and agricultural). R+HEATSHIELD is thin and lightweight, so it’s ideal for controlling temperatures in any space-constricted situation (such as in a recreational vehicle or inside machinery that requires temperature control in order to function properly).
Why Do I Need Airspace Next To The Surface?
All Low E materials achieve the majority of their thermal performance ONLY when they face an air space. “E” stands for emissivity, the converse of reflectivity. Low E surfaces like R+HEATSHIELD, when facing an air space, will either reflect 95 percent of the heat that is directed to them across the air space, or they won’t emit more than 5 percent of the heat that is conducted to them.

Do I Need Special Tools To Install?
No. R+HEATSHIELD can be cut easily with a razor blade or scissors and installed with common staples, nails or screws.
